According to a report by BizJournal Kansas City, Kansas City, Mo. USA, Bennett Packaging and Displays, which is based in a 450,000-sq.-ft. underground facility in Lee’s Summit, will expand its manufacturing operation at the former Sam’s Club building this month if the Kansas City Council approves rezoning this week.

Charles Renner, a Husch Blackwell LLP attorney who represents the owners of the Sam’s Club building, said Bennett Packaging plans to start occupying the building on Sepember 21 and add 37 employees there this year. Within a year, 20 more employees will be added at the site, Renner said, and during the next 10 years, Bennett Packaging expects to be employing 97 at the 131,000-sq. ft. Sam’s Club building and an adjacent 24,000-sq. ft. building formerly occupied by a Petco store.

Renner said the 33-acre site including those buildings and a few smaller in-line retail structures was bought out of foreclosure by his client, C&C Development LLC, which is led by Doug Krtek of Krtek Real Estate Inc. C&C Development and Bennett Packaging already have agreed to a lease, subject to rezoning approval.
