Suzano Pulp and Paper, Brazil, has ordered two new tissue machines (total value of $58 million) to be installed at the company’s Mucuri and Imperatriz mills in northeast Brazil. Each tissue machine will have 60,000 metric tpy of tissue production capacity. Construction is scheduled to begin this May, with startup at Imperatriz planned for the third quarter of 2017 and startup at Mucuri expected in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Both mills will produce jumbo rolls to be supplied to toilet paper converters in the northeast region of Brazil. Manufacturer of the machines has not yet been identified by Suzano.
Suzano CEO Walter Schalka stated in a Tissue World magazine report that "we want to sell jumbo rolls to national and international clients that want to operate in northeast Brazil, then they will be able to sell toilet paper wherever they want. This way, we’ll avoid the migration of jumbo rolls from southeast to northeast Brazil, which has a high cost."
