Rochester Winterfest 2016 (Rochester, Minn., USA) continued this weekend with a unique new tradition - the paperboard sled race, another testament to the durability of the forest industry product that is affordable for today's consumers to practice creative ideas.
The race on corrugated or paperboard is hosted by the Rochester Golf and Country Club and benefits the Minnesota Children’s Museum of Rochester. Families and kids build sleds to race with only one rule in mind; According to Karen Cook from the Children’s Museum, the sled must be made of cardboard.
"From there you can make it as creative a design as you want. Some people are doing it on themes, some are doing it on wide varieties of things," said a spokesman for the event, "The sky’s the limit and you can add to it however you want."
Each entry is $15 and the money goes to benefiting the community as well as the Children’s Museum.
"We use donations for a program called 'play for all' which makes it possible for families who are low income families to come to the museum for free," he added.
This event is in its third year and the amount of entries has almost tripled.
