Kadant Black Clawson, Mason, Ohio, USA, a subsidiary of Kadant Inc. (Westford, Mass.), announced on Monday (February 15) that it received an order from Kruger Packaging L.P. for a recycled fiber processing line to produce lightweight, high-strength linerboard on its PM 10 in Trois-Rivières, Qué., Canada.
The new OCC line will have a capacity of 1,150 bone-dry metric tpd and will feature the latest technology for the production of recycled corrugated container, enabling the mill to operate with low energy consumption and high capacity. The system will include the Hydrapulper® low consistency continuous pulper, the Hydraflow continuous detrasher, ragger and ragger tail cutter, trashwell, high density cleaners, and a coarse screening system that features the high-capacity, high-efficiency V-MAX® screen cylinder, among other related equipment.
"Kruger selected Kadant for this conversion project based on its proven OCC equipment technology and track record of successful rebuilds," said Christian Lemay, project manager at Kruger Packaging. The former newsprint machine will be completely modernized and rebuilt to incorporate some of the most advanced containerboard manufacturing technology. Once the new line is up and running in 2017, it is expected to produce 360,000 metric tons of 100% recycled-content lightweight linerboard per year.
"We are pleased to have been selected to supply the OCC system and related equipment for this modernization project to convert the production of a machine from newsprint to linerboard," said Peter Flynn, president of Kadant Black Clawson. "Our growing number of machine conversion projects—those that shift a machine’s production from declining graphics paper grades to containerboard used for packaging—is encouraging as customers continue to recognize Kadant products and technologies as highly reliable in demanding applications, such as the processing of recycled fiber."
Delivery of the OCC line and related equipment from Kadant is expected to be made in the second half of 2016.
