A free webinar titled Value for Lignin—Promises, Challenges, and Breakthroughs will be conducted Tuesday, April 5, by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The webinar begins at 3 p.m. London time/10 a.m., New York time./and 5 p.m. Helsinki time. It will be presented by VTT’s Dr.TiinaLiitiä, research team leader, and Dr. TarjaTamminen, principal scientist. You must register in advance to participate in this webinar.
The webinar organizers note that visualization of patent applications provides an early indication of technology development trends and strategic directions of industry. "We intend to demonstrate this in the lignin technology area and highlight the R&D trends today and tomorrow."
The webinar addresses the following questions:
- How can we extract the full benefit of aromatic lignin side streams from modern lignocellulosicbiorefineries and traditional pulp mills?
- What will be the most promising lignin products entering the markets in the near future?
- What are the major challenges still to be overcome, and the technological breakthroughs needed for the commercialization of innovative and high-value lignin products?
The webinar also reviews the status of latest technologies for the utilization of lignin in a wide range of products, and a patent landscape demonstration visualizes the upcoming global trends in lignin applications.
The focus of the webinar is in material development where the polymeric nature of lignin can be utilized. Special features of industrial lignins, originating from different processes and feedstocks, are assessed to map target products.
Novel cost efficient upgrading technologies are highlighted through the following case examples:
- Production of highly reactive lignin for phenolic resins using novel lignin separation technology
- Cost-efficient and simple lignin functionalization technology for high-performance concrete plasticizers, providing also versatile utilization potential as surface active agent in a wide range of consumer products
- Means to convert lignin into a thermoplastic and melt processable polymer for e.g. composites and coatings.
Join this webinar to learn how you could speed up your development activities related to lignin valorization.
