TAPPI’s PEERS 2016 Conference has announced it will be offering three new workshops on Sunday, September 25, 2016 as part of its technical program. These workshops focus on key issues and concerns facing the industry today and will be delivered by leading experts in the field
The "Kraft Pulp Mill Lime Recovery Kiln Maintenance" workshop will focus on ongoing and preventive maintenance techniques to allow for the continuous, reliable operation of a mill’s lime kiln(s). Instructor Glenn Hanson from the Industrial Kiln & Dryer Group will discuss how proper maintenance and operation of the Lime Recovery Kiln within a chemical recovery system can save a mill money by preventing the need for costly and inefficient purchases of fresh lime and disposal of lime mud as well as by controlling fuel purchase expenses.
The "Recovered Paper Markets" workshop will be presented by Bill Moore, president of Moore & Associates. He will cover a wide range of topics in the worldwide and U.S. recovered paper markets for all of the major grade groups. Some of the areas covered in the presentation include:worldwide and U.S. OCC, ONP, mixed paper, office papers supply and demand balance; why the markets react the way they do, and what factors affect them; characterization of U.S. domestic mill demand and procurement practices; status of U.S. collection activities; the Asian export market and its effect on the U.S. market and offshore buying characteristics; recovered paper yield and quality issues; and future expected trends.
The "Brown Stock Washing" workshop will provide basic operating and design principles associated with brown stock washing. Instructor, Robert (Bobby) Wilson of SIXIN North America Inc., will investigate the fundamental applications of displacement, extraction, and dilution washing. Water use and reuse will also be topically discussed. Vacuum drum washers will be used as the basis for this course as they present the opportunity to review all three types of washing. An explanation of how the operating principles associated with vacuum drum washers may be successfully applied to more modern washer and washing devices will also be covered, along with washing optimization, economics, and troubleshooting techniques.
