The Italian Manufacturers Association of Machinery for the Graphic Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA), reports that the Italian sector of printing, converting, and package machines for any kind of industrial use "closed an excellent 2015." Revenues reached the EUR 2.2 billion level, up by about 5% over 2014, 78% of which was generated by exports. Domestic sales rose by 38% (from EUR 360 to 500 million), reaching a level unprecedented since 2000. The recovery of domestic investment is also shown by a 19% increase in imports.
The preliminary data processed by ACIMGA is mirrored by an increase in employment of 150 people, reaching an impressive 7,100 total employees.
Printing and package manufacturing machinery is the spearhead of Italian instrumental mechanics, according to ACIMGA. Companies represented by ACIMGA that engineer and manufacture such machinery (different in function from companies manufacturing packaging and measuring machines, which are complementary to the former and represent yet another strength of the Italian industry), ensure that about 60% of all rigid and flexible packages on shelves worldwide are either made or finished with made-in-Italy machinery.
