Smurfit Kappa (Dublin, Ireland) announced late this past week that their Russian division had what the group described as some of the most leading packaging competing with the newest technologies and developments at an annual event in the country. SKR was recognized here as ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ across nine categories.

The first prize went to Smurfit Kappa of St. Petersburg for its packaging of the flavored beer "Boilermaker by Tuborg" produced on behalf of Baltica. Its structural design was adapted for the automated filling line and is made of fully recyclable corrugated board. The winning aspect of the new design is its imitation of wooden texture, creating a feeling of natural resource and thus appealing to customers.

The second prize Smurfit Kappa received was for a consumer pack for the vodka product, "Imperial Collection Super Premium", produced for Ladoga. Made of fully recyclable corrugated board, the new design became an alternative to the previously used wooden packaging decorated with velvet. The unique structural design not only securely holds in place the vodka primary pack, which is styled like a Carle Fabergé egg, but also allows easy accessibility and an impressive presentation.

"These wins highlight once again the right strategy to develop the fit-for-purpose packaging solutions together with the customers, based on their needs and business challenges. We continually invest in our knowledge of key trends and developments in the area of shopper marketing and new technologies in paper packaging production and share all insights with our customers. This allows us to create together the packaging which meets the demands of both the marketing and production departments within our customers." commented Olga Rudova, the commercial director at Smurfit Kappa of St. Petersburg.
