Domtar (Montreal, Que., Canada) announced this past week that it has donated $100,000 to the nonprofit Office Depot Foundation’s National Backpack Program. Domtar’s donation will help provide children across the country with the supplies they need as the new school year begins.

"Supporting the Office Depot Foundation is important to Domtar because promoting education and literacy are core priorities for us," said Rob Melton, VP of Paper Sales and Marketing at Domtar. "Putting paper and writing supplies in the hands of children in need helps set them up for success in school and in life."

Through their Powerful Pages initiative, Domtar engages with organizations like the Office Depot Foundation, as well as with schools across North America. Together they stand behind a goal to share the gifts of reading and writing with children and help equip students for learning.

"Domtar is truly a difference maker," said Mary Wong, president, Office Depot Foundation. "We are exceptionally grateful that the company has made a substantial donation again this year in support of our National Backpack Program. Domtar's contribution helps us maximize the impact that this program makes on kids across the country. We appreciate Domtar's commitment to children and families."

2016 marks the 16th year of the award-winning National Backpack Program. By the end of this year, more than four million backpacks will have been given away. More information about the Office Depot Foundation is available online.
