Epson America Inc., Long Beach, Calif., USA, has introduced the newest addition to its extensive product portfolio of proofing papers—the Standard Proofing Paper Premium. Designed to meet the demanding needs of proofing houses, design shops, ad agencies, and businesses that produce color match proofs, prototypes, and mock-ups, the new Epson Standard Proofing Paper Premium is one of the first to meet, or exceed the much anticipated GRACol 2017/Fogra 52 certifications.
"With the increase in popularity of press stocks with high Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs), the industry has been looking for a proofing paper that produces a close match between the color proof and the press stock with little to no additional paper tinting," said Jeffrey Smith, product manager, Epson America. "This new Standard Proofing Paper Premium meets this requirement and is manufactured to meet extremely demanding industry expectations for color accurate contract proofs."
Standard Proofing Paper Premium, with a LAB value of 96.2, 1.4.-10.2 measured at M1, offers whiter, bluer color and is GRACol Grade 1/Fogra 52 compliant, making this one of the first papers in the market that truly reflects what the industry has been looking for in replicating the new press stocks. Delivering a large color gamut, high opacity, sharp details, and instant dry capabilities, Standard Proofing Paper Premium has been manufactured to exacting specifications that deliver Delta E tolerance below 0.5, one of the industry's best.
"As a member of the Idealliance + Epicomm Print Properties committee, the Committee of Graphic Arts Technology Standards (CGATS), and the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), I have seen firsthand where the industry is experiencing more issues with proof to press matches since the introduction of the new lighting standard in 2009," said Roy Bohnen, account manager, Proofing, Epson America. "Epson is addressing this by exceeding the proposed guidelines and offering a proofing media that aligns with the higher levels of OBA content on press stocks, creating the desired proof to press visualization and proof to press measurements that can be certified with proof verification software."
Epson Standard Proofing Paper Premium will be available in October 2016 through Authorized Epson resellers in 100' roll lengths in common widths of 17 in., 24 in., and 44 in., as well as 13 in. x 19 in. sheets. The papers are available in a 10 mil. caliper of 250 gsm weight and a 8 mil. caliper of 200 gsm weight.
