Learn about the latest in processing wood and bio-based materials and to attend two special workshops at the 4th International Conference on Process Technologies for the Forest and Bio-based Products Industries (PTF BPI), Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 25 and 26, 2016, in St. Simons Island, Ga., USA. The conference is jointly hosted by The Forest Products Society, University of Tennessee Center for Renewable Carbon, and Forest Products and Timber Construction Department — Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.
The conference is dedicated to the exchange of information and ideas and research on process technologies, quality control, and process improvement.
The conference will feature new information on processing these advanced materials:
- Biopolymer composites
- Lingo-nanocellulose and lignin-based carbon fibers
- Novel adhesives for engineered wood products including soy flour and lignin-based alternatives
- Use of agricultural waste for panel production
- Particleboard from post-harvest sugar cane.
Two special workshops: "Experimental Design Workshop for Manufacturers and Researchers" and "Life Cycle Assessment: Everything You Need to Know and Were Afraid to Ask," will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
The "Experimental Design" workshop, taught by Timothy M. Young, Ph.D., from The University of Tennessee, will offer participants the basics of developing a design and interpreting statistical results from experimental data.
In the "Life Cycle Assessment" workshop, taught by Maureen Puettmann, Ph.D., of WoodLife Environmental Consultants, participants will gain a greater understanding of what it takes to develop and interpret a LCA reports, as well as determine factors to decide if an LCA is good for their small business.
