Corrugated Packaging – Box Plant Basics (Full Course Includes All 10 Modules)
- These corrugated packaging and box training courses cover corrugated material manufacturing and converting processes. These fundamental courses include both equipment and process descriptions as well as performance testing and plant safety.
Box Plant modules can also be purchased separately:
Corrugated Box Basics
- This introductory course helps students become familiar with common industry terms, describe popular corrugated board and corrugated box styles, and discuss corrugated box usage considerations.
- This course helps students define corrugated board reference terms as well as describe the design and operation of box plant equipment, including printer-slotters, folder-gluers, stitchers, tapers, laminators, bundlers, and palletizers.
Safety
- This course provides students with the methods to identify common equipment hazards, describe potential sources of stored energy, as well as knowledge of how to work safely with or around chemicals and mitigate sources of fire, slip, trip, fall, and bump hazards in box plants.
Corrugated Raw Materials
- This course will help students learn about wood fiber sources, chemical pulping and papermaking processes, and various glues, inks, and coatings used in the production of corrugated board and corrugated boxes.
Corrugators
- This course helps students describe the Corrugating Process including information on Wet End Components, Preconditioning and Preheating, Corrugating and Pressure Rolls, Adhesive Application, Double Facer Glue Unit and Hot Plate Section, Dry End Components, Stacker, and Double and Triple Wall Corrugators.
Corrugated Board Tests
- This course provides a review stacking performance tests, including the box compression test (BCT), edge compression test (ECT), short-span compression test (SCT). Students will learn performance tests including the box drop test, burst strength test, and puncture test as well as understand the flat crush test (FCT), warp test, and pin adhesion test.
Corrugated Die Cutters
- This course helps students describe the design and operation of platen and rotary die cutters, and in-line sectional die cutter machines.
Corrugating Adhesives
- This course will help students describe the purpose or function of the ingredients in modern, starch-based corrugating adhesives as well as understand importance of adhesive viscosity and describe bonding process at the single facer and double facer, and the variables that can affect bonding. Students will also learn about water-resistant adhesives.
Box Plant Equipment Basics
- This course provides students with a basic understanding of some common box plant equipment and processes, and discusses equipment layout, material flows, and storage considerations in box plants.
Flexo Folder-Gluers
- This course provides students with a review of the operation of machine sections, including the feed section, printing section, creaser-slotter, die cutter, glue lap unit, folding, and delivery end.
