CMPC, Sao Paulo, Brazil, has agreed to pay Chilean Peso 97.6 billion (approximately $149.9 million) as restitution to consumers by amounts unduly or in excess paid, as a result of facts denounced by the National Economic Prosecutor (FNE) in the Chilean tissue market.

According to a RISI report, the deal was formatted by the mediation table formed by the National Consumer Service (Sernac), National Consumer and Users Corporation, Consumers’ Association (Conadecu) and the Organization of Consumers and Users of Chile (Odecu).

"CMPC Tissue will pay the total agreed to whom Sernac establishes in the framework of the mediation table, once the corresponding resolution is executed, both in terms of the universe of beneficiaries and the distribution mechanism, without retaining any portion of the amount in the company," CMPC said.
