A six-syllable word such as sesquicentennial (ses·qui·cen·ten·ni·al/pronounced ses-kwi-sen-ten-ee-uhl)—a one-hundred and fiftieth anniversary—may be rare, but it’s also rare for a company to be around long enough to use it (reportedly, there are fewer than 120 public U.S.-based companies 150 years old or older). But this year marks Packaging Corporation of America’s (PCA’s) 150th year, with roots that trace back to 1867, when the North Star Mill was founded in Quincy, Ill., USA.
To celebrate this milestone during 2017, PCA will be sharing unique and interesting facts about its history via social media and a dedicated blog.
According to PCA’s manager of marketing services, "this will be the year that we tell our story, from our humble beginnings to becoming one of the largest U.S. producers of containerboard and corrugated packaging, and now uncoated freesheet as well. The goal is to increase awareness of our long-standing tradition of quality and service to our customers that is second to none."

An overview of PCA’s growth is also presented in the "History" section of PCA’s website.
