Lecta, Barcelona, Spain, will replace its existing P1 coating machine for thermal papers with a new line to be installed at its Leitza, Spain, plant in the beginning of 2018. This is part of Lecta's Strategic Plan aimed at diversifying business and reinforcing its specialty papers and reducing the production capacity of coated woodfree paper.
More than EUR 20 million will be invested in new thermal facilities, which include a Voith (Germany) coating machine and follows on from the complete modernization of the coating preparation kitchen.
The investment is designed to improve industrial efficiency, broaden the product range, and boost self-consumption as a result of growing demand for thermal self-adhesive papers in e-commerce and other labeling applications. These new thermal facilities will meet the demand of a growing market within exacting quality standards to meet the most rigorous environmental requirements.
As with other recent investments undertaken by Lecta to increase the production capacity of specialty papers, the new coating line represents a higher level of base paper integration and, consequently, the switch from coated woodfree paper production capacity to specialty base paper.
Lecta is a European producer and distributor of specialty paper for labels and flexible packaging, coated and non-coated paper for publishing and commercial printing, and other high value-added print media.
All of Lecta's manufacturing sites are certified to the strictest environmental standards – ISO 14001 and EMAS – and hold PEFC™ and FSC® chain of custody certificates. Furthermore, all Lecta sites have successfully completed audits for ISO 50001 energy efficiency, ISO 9001 quality, and OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety certification.
