Oji, Mitsubishi to Jointly Build New Tissue Mill in Japan

Oji Holdings and Mitsubishi Paper Mills (both Japan-based) report that they will jointly make household tissue products in response to increasing tourist demands. The joint venture is known as MPM Oji Home Products.
The companies will invest $43.8 million to construct a mill on the grounds of Mitsubishi Paper’s Hachinohe mill in Aomori Prefecture that will come online in April 2019, according to a report by papnews.com. Oji subsidiary Oji Nepia will invest 30%, while Mitsubishi Paper will put up 70%.
The new mill will produce 18,000 metric tpy of Oji’s Nepia- and Mitsubishi Paper’s Nacre-brand tissues and toilet paper, for sale mainly in Japan’s northeastern region, papnews.com adds.
According to an announcement by Oji and Mitsuibishi, the new company will install a tissue paper machine and a tissue converting operation in the area of Mitsubishi Paper Mills’ Hachinohe Mill, located in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture of Japan. It is expected to start operations in April 2019.
