This coming Saturday, July 22, 2017, Georgia-Pacific's (Atlanta, Ga., USA) Dixie Ultra® brand will take summer barbecue to new and daring heights to showcase the strength of its new paper plates. Kansas City, Mo.'s historic 18th and Vine will be the location for an extreme dining event called "Raising the BBQ." Acrobatic servers will cross tightropes carrying two-pound meals of barbecue with all of the fixings on Dixie Ultra plates, where hungry patrons wait at a restaurant suspended 40 ft. above the ground.
Dixie has also partnered with Adam Richman (photo right), a noted TV personality, food enthusiast, and author of cookbook "Straight up Tasty: Meals, Memories, and Mouthfuls from My Travels." As the original host of the Travel Channel's ratings giant Man vs. Food, Richman is no stranger to large portions and extreme dining. Richman will appear at the "Raising the BBQ" event in Kansas City as emcee and host of the Facebook Live broadcast, which begins at 1 p.m. ET on July 22.
"'Raising the BBQ' is the ultimate stress test for Dixie Ultra plates," said Rafael Garcia, senior brand director of Dixie®. "Two pounds of mouth-watering Kansas City barbecue and servers carrying them in one hand up tight ropes is quite the challenge, but we know our plates will hold up under pressure. We're excited that Adam Richman will be a part of this event and viewers everywhere will be able to tune in on Facebook Live."
Locals are invited to attend this free event to watch the spectacle and win the chance to dine at the restaurant.
"As someone who appreciates a good summer barbecue, I know the importance of a strong paper plate, but I've never been part of a spectacle quite as unique as Dixie Ultra's 'Raising the BBQ,'" said Richman. "Things will get very messy very quickly if the plates and servers can't handle the stress, and I'm really looking forward to being a part of the action at this wild, must-see event."
The feast will feature BBQ fare from award-winning downtown Kansas City restaurant Q39. Five acrobatic servers will start from the ground during each course and carry up to two pounds of food on Dixie Ultra® plates across more than 125 feet of tightrope to hungry patrons in the sky. Throughout the event, attendees on the ground will enjoy free barbecue, as well as activities and entertainment, reinforcing the strength and durability of the plates in various stress-test situations.
In addition to Richman, Kansas City first-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes will cheer on the servers and meet with fans. There will be other special surprises in store for both the Kansas City attendees and Facebook Live viewers.
The event is part of the Dixie Ultra® Stress Test campaign, which launched in conjunction with the introduction of the brand's new paper plates—the strongest paper plate among leading brands.
