Port Hawkesbury Paper (Port Hawkesbury, N.S., Canada) provided an update regarding this week's announcement by West Linn Paper Company that it is ceasing operations.
"It is with disappointment that we learned of West Linn Paper’s closure. The mill has a proud history of 128 years, including the past 20 years since it was restarted under the current ownership. We understand that operating as a non-integrated paper mill was ultimately impossible in today’s challenging marketplace, particularly given recent events resulting in a significant reduction of pulp availability," the company said in an official release.
At Port Hawkesbury Paper, it "will be business as usual" according to their own reports of successful production and proper restructuring. Port Hawkesbury Paper is a separate entity and has stood on its own since the resumption of operations in 2012. Company long-term focus remains unchanged – producing the highest quality paper in the safest and most cost-effective manner possible. The company reports it will continue to invest significant capital in the mill, with the goal of remaining "the best" supercalendered paper facility in North America.
The company is also pleased to share with both employees and customers that it is celebrating a fifth anniversary (later this month). Port Hawkesbury Paper stressed the company's appreciation for ongoing business keeping the mill busy and healthy in both production and in the quality customers have reported they've been satisfied with.
