Have Questions About Kiln and Recaust Problems?

Are your mill operations facing daily struggles related to kiln and recaust operations?
Even if you answered no, you’ll still want to mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 8, from 10:30 – Noon (EST). Why? Because that’s when a panel of experts will convene at PEERS 2017 (Session 35) to discuss and answer individual questions from the onsite audience, as well as via Twitter and phone.
"Efficient lime kiln operations are key to successful recovery and recausticizing," notes Panel Moderator Thanh Trung from FITNIR Analyzers, Inc. "Kiln is one of the highest consumers of fossil fuel and, with recausticizing operations, often are bottlenecks for pulp mills. Our panelists will address lime kiln operating issues, and during the Q&A, answer key operational questions. Please prepare your questions and get them answered by the expert panelists."
Participating on the panel are subject matter experts: Doug Barbour, Harmac Pacific; Henric Dernegård, Södra Cell Mönsterås; Glenn M. Hanson III, Kiln Flame Systems (KFS); Ray Leary, Houghton Cascade Holdings, LLC; and Honghi Tran, Ph.D., University of Toronto. Topics they will discuss include:
- Dusting problems in kiln
- Burner selection and design
- Chain configuration and design
- Residual carbonate testing and best practices
- Lime-water interactions
- Minimizing deadload and maximizing CE
- Kiln control strategies.
New this year? Participate in the Q&A via Twitter using the handle @TAPPIKilnPanel. All questions posted to Twitter will be answered during the live panel and, if necessary, will be given to the appropriate panel expert for follow-up. According to Trung, the @TAPPIKilnPanel account will be maintained post-PEERS 2017 and will actively forward questions to the appropriate expert for response.
To phone in questions from the U.S. and Canada, dial 1-866-740-1260. Calls from other global locations should use this link to access a list of toll-free numbers. All callers will need to enter Passcode 2097313 to access the session.
There is still time to register and attend PEERS 2017, as well as the co-located International Bioenergy and Bioproducts Conference (IBBC). IBBC brings together experts from around the world who are interested in leveraging knowledge and assets in the pulp and paper industry to produce fuel, energy and chemicals from biomass.
