Total U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Decrease 5% in May 2018

Shipments of U.S. uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper in May 2018 edged down slightly year-over-year, AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) reported in its May 2018 U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Report published this past week. According to the report, total P&W paper shipments decreased 5 percent in May compared with May 2017.
Total P&W paper inventory levels decreased 3 percent from April.
Imports of U.S. P&W papers in April increased 4 percent compared with April 2017 imports, while exports declined 1 percent compared with April 2018.
Purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers increased year-over-year in May 2018 for the second time this year. Imports of CM increased 24 percent year-over-year in April. Exports of CM increased two percent year-over-year in April.
Shipments of coated free sheet (CFS) paper and uncoated mechanical (UM) papers in May both declined year-over-year. Imports of UM papers increased 7 percent compared with April 2017, while imports of CFS papers decreased 12 percent compared twith last April.
