James Chantler, Ph.D., is a Business Manager in the Glass Fiber Division for Nippon Electric Glass (NEG). In this capacity, he has P&L responsibility for glass fibers sold to the construction industry, as well as sales and technical duties. Attending TAPPI conferences, tradeshows, and networking helps him understand the fiberglass market better, particularly the relationships of fiberglass mat technology with the paper industry. According to Dr. Chantler, the machines used to manufacture fiberglass are essentially modified paper machines.
Committee Membership Broadens Perspective
Dr. Chantler serves as president of the Fiberglass Mat Technology Committee. Within the last couple of years, the Committee has focused on everyday mat manufacturing issues from a wide variety of perspectives during their annual Fiberglass Mat Technology Committee meetings. This change has increased attendance by offering tangible, day-to-day workplace benefits.
The dates for the Fiberglass Mat Technology Committee’s annual fall meeting in Charleston is September 19-21. During the meeting, industry experts will discuss production from different viewpoints such as engineering, chemistry, and the mat customer’s perspective. There will be opportunities to receive practical advice, explore ways to increase production and reduce quality issues, as well as network with other industry professionals.
