SCA’s (Deerfield, Ill., USA) research and development department (R&D) conducts cooperations with several universities in addition to its own research. Recently, it was a premiere and opening ceremony for a new research collaboration between SCA and the Universität für Bodenkultur in Vienna, also known as BOKU. It will mark the starting point for an exciting cooperation in green chemistry and energy.
"We within SCA have been interested of a research collaboration in this area for a while." said Jerker Jäder, R&D Director at SCA.
R&D collaborates with Mid Sweden University but also with several other research institutions in Sweden and in other countries. As it is now relevant to develop the research in green chemistry and energy, there was a need for advanced research competence. The collaboration that exists today with other universities cannot fully cover this area.
Several universities have been interesting for this new cooperation, but the University of Vienna has several advantages. They could offer SCA very flexible opportunities to cooperate, and BOKU also has very interesting researchers and research leaders in this field. Generally, Austria has been in front at developing green areas related to industrial activities.
"Our forthcoming collaboration is entirely in green chemistry and will increase our knowledge of how we can develop the continued use of by-products from our industry. At the same time, it gives us important input to the planned investments in SCA’s new energy operations.", said Jerker Jäder.
