EUWID reports that production at Cartiera Pieretti's recycled corrugated case material mill in Italy is currently down. The responsible trade union representative of the mill told EUWID that the site's machine had been standing still since 25 November. It is not yet clear if the company will continue operating or if it will go bankrupt.

Cartiera Pieretti had applied for entering creditor arrangement proceedings under the Italian bankruptcy law (concordato preventivo) in the summer. The spokesperson said that the court would make a decision in the coming days whether operations would be continued or the mill had to be closed down. At the moment, there is also no solution for the mill's employees.

Cartiera Pieretti has been struggling with internal difficulties for some time following change of ownership at the beginning of the year. According to the trade union spokesperson, outstanding payments had not been made, customer orders had gone missing and working conditions had worsened, which also led to strike actions in the past months. In the wake of these problems, production had been scaled down. Before the complete production stop last week, the mill was producing on only five days a week.

Cartiera Pieretti runs one machine, which has a capacity of around 40,000 tpy. Its products include white-top testliner and coreboard.
