PEERS Workshop Helps Mills Improve Bottom Line

Six Sigma is an enterprise-wide, project-driven quality improvement approach that emphasizes a systematic method for problem solving and decision-making based on data. Lean is a method that concentrates on reducing waste by improving work flow and eliminating mistakes. Combined, both methodologies provide mills a powerful means to maintain the quality their customers expect and still improve their bottom line.
TAPPI’s Pulping, Engineering, Environmental, Recycling and Sustainability (PEERS) Conference, an established training resource for mills and their operational teams, offers a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) workshop in 2020. This popular workshop led by Dr. Lokendra Pal, Associate Professor and Certified LSS Black Belt at North Carolina State University, will introduce participants to methods and benefits of Lean and Six Sigma as they apply to all types of enterprises. It features classroom instruction, team learning activities, and case studies focused on process improvement objectives such as increasing process efficiency, improving quality, reducing cycle times, and optimizing business/operational processes. PEERS, November 1-4 in Atlanta, GA, focuses on the latest advances in technology, as well as fundamental process knowledge and control issues mills face each day. Its comprehensive technical program emphasizes new methods and best practices to help mills optimize operations and reach their sustainability goals. The Conference provides mills and other professionals the opportunity to learn from industry experts in a presentation setting, as well as engage in peer-to-peer discussions during panel sessions, committee meetings and roundtables. PEERS also offers multiple networking events and includes an exhibit floor where attendees can speak face-to-face with suppliers about the latest technologies and solutions.
PEERS is currently seeking manuscripts that provide reports or case studies on new advances in technology, increases in efficiency and reliability and fundamental process knowledge. Industry professionals are invited to share their latest successes with their peers from around the world and should submit an abstract by March 15, 2019.
