Out of an abundance of caution due to the Covid-19 virus the Executive Committee of Gulf Coast TAPPI has made the decision to cancel our 2020 annual June meeting at SeaScape Resort in Destin, Florida. Even with Florida lifting some of their restrictions, we were not sure that some of our speakers and attendees would be able to participate. The size of the event space would also present a challenge to set up in a way to allow for proper social distancing. With that we did not want to hold the meeting in such a way which it would not allow it to operate to a full potential. We thank all who had volunteered & begun preparations but in light of this unprecedented crisis and the associated precautions to get the virus under control, we felt it best to cancel this years’ on-site meeting.
For this meeting KILNCON 2020 was scheduled as the topic for the workshops & technical presentations. KILNCON 2020 will not occur but instead will become KILNCON 2021 with plans to hold it in conjunction with the Gulf Coast TAPPI Local Section Annual Meeting in Destin, Florida at SeaScape Resort.
Gulf Coast TAPPI does plan on holding a virtual technical session for a short period of the scheduled dates that were planned for the Destin Meeting, stay tuned for further details.
We invite folks to maintain plans to attend our Fall meeting which will again be held in conjunction with the Auburn Pulp & Paper Foundation on the Auburn campus. GCT is also planning to have a early year meeting in February/March with topics & location to be announced soon.
Gulf Coast TAPPI appreciates your continued support and we all send our regards and hopes for health & safety to all in this time of crisis.
