Amid strong demand from Europe and Turkey, prices for old corrugated containers (OCC, 1.05) continued to go up quickly on the UK market in May. However, experts believe they will now remain stable or even decrease slightly.
Some paper mills, not only in Asia, considered prices to be too high, especially since attempts to increase prices for brown recycled containerboard in May failed.
Most experts talking to EUWID did not expect a sharp drop in prices in the coming weeks as they believed recovered paper supply to remain rather short. Others however, pointed to the fact that global markets are in a severe recession, which would also affect paper pricing sooner or later.
