Young professionals make up more than 50% of the global workforce, however, retaining and developing young talent has been a struggle for employers across all industries, including pulp, paper, packaging and tissue.

As part of TAPPI’s PIMA Division’s 2020 Innovation and Leadership Conference Series, expert panelists will share their insights on young workforce retention during the “Engaging a Generational Workforce: A Conversation on Attracting & Retaining Young Talent” session held during week 2. The virtual session, hosted by TAPPI’s Young Professionals Division on Wednesday, September 9th from 11am – 12:30pm, includes key insight from a survey sent to young professionals in the paper, pulp and packaging industry on retention. The session offers attendees data and ideas that can be applied on an individual or company-wide basis. They will also have an opportunity to engage with the panelists during an interactive Q&A at the end of the session. Panelists include:

  • Marcina Rogers, International Paper
  • Caitlin Knight, Jacobs
  • Lauren Baksh, Graphic Packaging International
  • Tim Hagenbuch, WMU Paper Technology Foundation
  • Dan Schott, Panther Systems

On Thursday, September 10that 11am, professionals will have the opportunity to attend the third session in the Conference Series, called “Future of Leadership.” This session, presented by TAPPI’s Women in Industry Division, addresses how to develop future leaders, how the nature of developing leadership capabilities is shifting, how to equip employees with the right tools, the myth of work / life balance, and role of ego as it pertains to leadership and multigenerational workforce cohesion. Attendees will hear from expert panelists and can participate in an interactive question and answer session afterwards. Panelists include:

  • Mike Farrell, Graphic Packaging
  • Brianah Morse, Georgia Pacific
  • Michael Subilia, II, Domtar Paper Company
  • Rebecca Boyd, PE, Jedson Engineering
