Oji Holdings Corporation recently announced that it will invest USD 37.5 million (JPY 4 billion) to establish a new corrugated container plant in Johor in southern Malaysia. The plant will have an approximate production capacity of 7 million m2 per month.

Oji Holdings said the "expansion of overseas business" has been set as "one of the major pillars to strive towards the realization of an innovative value-creating company."

In Malaysia, Oji Holdings is currently operating eight corrugated container plants — 3 in North, 3 in Central, and 2 in South. In 2019, the company doubled its production capacity of two production plants in Central Malaysia.

Oji noted that it expects increasing demand for corrugated packaging in southern Malaysia and that new plant will help the company meet that demand.

The new plant will be Oji Group's 26th corrugated container plant in South East Asia and India.

Start-up of the new plant is planned for January 2022.
