Robert (Bob) Cantu passed away on September 17, 2021 in Charlotte, NC at the age of 79. Sadly, his life companion of many decades, Jeanne Fowler, also passed away on September 25, 2021 in Charlotte. Both had been battling cancer.
“Bob was a lifelong friend of the printing ink and packaging industries”, says Jim Wegemer (Director National Accounts INX International Ink Co). Bob retired from Sun Chemical a number of years ago. During his career he not only contributed to many industry associations and customers in the paper packaging markets, but he also worked diligently to improve the knowledge and skills of people who were new to the industry and looking to grow.
He was recognized by TAPPI in 2007 with the Division Technical Award and the Harry J. Bettendorf Prize.
In recognition for his contribution to the ink industry, Bob was a recipient of the 2001 Printing Ink Pioneer Award from the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers. He was passionate about his work and dedicated to sharing what he knew. Bob had written several technical papers and made numerous presentations over the years.
Bob graduated from University of Texas and served in the US Navy. Amongst other things, he was an accomplished astronomer, a published author, photographer, poet, painter, fly fisherman and classical guitar player. He is survived by his daughter Leslie.
Bob and Jeanne were good friends to many. They will surely be missed.
