Baseball season may be over, but this is your chance to be a pinch hitter and knock one out of the park for TAPPI Standards and impact the pulp, paper and converting industries at the same time.
There are more than 240 Standards currently managed by TAPPI and each test method has a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) made up of industry professionals who regularly review and vote on that test method.
Each SSIG must have the minimum required 10 volunteers to conduct a valid review of the test method and many of them have open ballots. The following SSIGs have open ballots and are one volunteer short to complete the review and process.
- Chemical Properties:
- T 223 cm-10 Pentosans in wood and pulp
- T 600 om-15 Analysis of formaldehyde in aqueous solutions and of free formaldehyde in resins
- Fillers and Pigments: T438 cm-06 Zinc and Cadmium in Paper
- Optical Properties: T 1219 sp-17 Storage of paper samples for optical measurements and color matching
- Physical Properties: T 516 cm-11 Envelope seal, seam, and window patch testing
- Pulp Properties: T 226 cm-11 Specific external surface of pulp
There’s no better way to gain a comprehensive understanding of what a test method does, how it works and learn about its practical uses than by being part of a SSIG.
What is required for SSIG participation?
- No meetings to attend.
- Minimal time commitment—like less than 20 minutes.
- Willingness to grow as an industry influencer, sharing your expertise, knowledge and technical information to help shape the industry’s future.
- Desire to expand your knowledge and network.
- TAPPI membership not required.
- There’s no limit to the number of SSIGs you participate in.
Here are six reasons to participate.
