Russia posted a significant increase of production and exports of pulp and timber this year, according to recent statements, made by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.
According to her, the biggest growth is currently observed in the Far East of Russia.
As Abramchenko has said the government is systematically working to switch the domestic timber complex to the model of deep wood processing. According to her, for Russia, round, unprocessed timber is no longer a commodity. At the same time, the restriction on the export of round timber is accompanied by measures of support from the state for the reorientation of production.
Victoria Abramchenko comments: "Along with support measures, the government is solving the problem of eliminating the 'blind' zones so that after January 1, 2022 there will be no export of round timber under the guise of allegedly processed materials. ...
After January 1, 2022, export of softwood and valuable timber will be limited due to protective export customs duties. These measures will help to preserve valuable forest resources and build an efficient forestry complex, as well as create jobs and launch production of high value-added products, Abramchenko said.
