The US Patent and Trademark office announced the allowance of US Patent Application 16/456,433. This patent strengthens HSMG’s PROTĒAN technology platform by incorporating the use of inorganic particles – many of which are commonly used in paper manufacturing today – to enhance the performance of PROTĒAN additives and coatings.
“This patent introduces options to enhance the bonding of PROTEAN to cellulose fiber during the manufacturing process, and to improve the barrier and mechanical properties of the final product,” states Jon Spender, Chief Technology Officer of HSMG. “This is another tool we can use to tailor PROTĒAN solutions to the needs of our customers.”
Unlike plastics and PFAS, PROTĒAN barrier solutions are readily recyclable and biodegradable and include 100% plant-based and compostable solutions for additives and coatings. HSMG licenses a range of manufacturers – of quick service wraps, cups, molded fiber, etc. – around the world to use PROTĒAN barriers.
