Heinzel Group Reports Record-Breaking Results for 2022

Heinzel Group announced a record-breaking year in 2022, achieving the highest turnover and the best earnings in the company's history. At the same time Heinzel Group reduced its CO2 emissions substantially, in line with its climate targets and sustainability strategy.

According to Heinzel Group, an all-time high in terms of pulp and paper prices contributed to an increase of the Group's net sales by 36.6% to EUR 2,777.4 million in 2022. In total, Heinzel Group generated an EBITDA of EUR 287.5 million, an increase of 46.8%, while lowering CO2 emissions (Scope 1&2) by 14.9% to 535,333 tons.

Major Strategic Steps in 2022
In 2022 Heinzel Group also set the course for future sustainable growth by signing an agreement for the acquisition of the Steyrermühl paper mill in Upper Austria from UPM. Heinzel Group will take over the site at the end of 2023.

"Our vision is to develop Steyrermühl together with our neighboring Laakirchen mill into a European hub for sustainable packaging papers and renewable energy," said Sebastian Heinzel, CEO of Heinzel Group.
In addition, works to rebuild an idled machine to produce kraft papers for flexible packaging have already begun.

In 2022, Heinzel Group also became a strategic investor in Paracel, a large afforestation project in Paraguay, South America, with the goal to build the country's first pulp mill.

"Our strong 2022 results have given us the opportunity to take bold strategic steps, following our purpose of recreating value for our partners, our people, and our planet," Heinzel said. "It has also given us a strong base to face a challenging 2023."

Committed to a Sustainable Future
With a new organizational sustainability setup and a new sustainability team in place, Heinzel Group has defined strategic sustainability targets and implemented key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress. The company has identified material topics and is committed to addressing them in a responsible and sustainable way.
