Solenis, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals used in water-intensive industries, has released its annual Sustainability Report. The report summarizes the progress toward the company’s environmental stewardship and social responsibility and governance (ESG) goals for the 2023 fiscal year. The report is available to download at www.solenis.com/en/sustainabilityreport.
“This past year was one of remarkable headway at Solenis,” said CEO John Panichella. “In addition to welcoming 9,400 new employees through growth endeavors like our Diversey merger, we continued to produce notable accomplishments as a testament to our emphasis on people, performance and results. Solenis was recognized for the third consecutive year as a US Best Managed Company, and we made significant strides toward our diversity, equity and inclusion vision — while also delivering strong financial results. Our acquisitions grow our scale and increase our ability to help our customers with their sustainability goals. We are well-positioned to move forward as a more diversified company with broader global reach, but we also acknowledge there are more challenges and obstacles to overcome.”
“We believe Solenis contributes positively to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. As we grow, our ESG activities continue to evolve,” said Chief Sustainability Officer Dr. Lotta Kanto Öqvist. “I’m proud of what our team achieved in 2023, from committing to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to completing our first Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). There are always areas for improvement, but these actions, along with many others, underscore our desire to advance our sustainability objectives.”
The 2023 report is based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Universal Standards. An independent certification agency validated findings of the report, which is the fourth released by Solenis. Key highlights in the report include:
• Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment: The action establishes the company’s commitment to develop and validate emissions reduction goals aligned with science-based targets and net-zero goals.
• Inaugural Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) submission: This enhances disclosure based on robust answers to more than 100 questions across climate, forests and water security.
• 2023 US Best Managed Company recognition: Solenis earned this distinction for the third consecutive year, reflecting a focus on its employees and operational excellence.
• Human Capital and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) improvement: The company moved closer to its objective of dedicating 5% of employee time to learning and personal growth. In addition, Solenis continues to be on course to meet its goal of doubling its overall workforce and leadership diversity by 2030.
• R&D expansion: Solenis announced in 2023 that it will invest $40 million to relocate and expand its Research & Development center in Delaware, USA, increasing capacity to innovate and meet the surging demand for sustainable chemical solutions.
• Centers of Excellence launch: Solenis inaugurated two new international centers of excellence (COEs), including one offering virtual lab testing capabilities, to advance sustainable practices in the consumer paper packaging industry.
• Employee engagement findings: 81% of Solenis employees, including those from newly acquired companies, expressed high engagement levels in the annual workplace survey, exceeding the survey vendor’s industry benchmarks for the manufacturing sector and similarly sized companies.
