Smurfit Kappa and Westrock Merger Approved by European Commission

The European Commission approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the merger between Smurfit Kappa and WestRock.
The European Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the companies’ limited combined market position resulting from the proposed transaction.
The merger proposal first emerged in September 2023 when Smurfit Kappa Group and WestRock Company unveiled their intentions to unite forces.
