The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) has announced the election of Stephen R. Scherger, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Graphic Packaging International, as its new Board Chair.
Scherger’s extensive leadership background and dedication to the paperboard packaging sector position him as an exemplary choice to lead the PPC during a period of industry evolution and growth.
Scherger, who previously held the position of PPC Board Chair in 2012, returns to continue his long-standing commitment to advancing the industry. His reappointment underscores his impactful role in fostering innovation, sustainability, and strategic development within the sector.
“Taking on this leadership role with the PPC is both an honor and an exciting opportunity,” said Scherger. “Under Laura Brodie’s leadership as Chair, PPC has gained tremendous momentum, and I look forward to working with our dedicated members to build on this foundation. Together, we’ll continue advancing the critical work of our industry: promoting innovation in paperboard packaging, building and retaining high-performing teams, investing in our next generation of leaders, and advancing the circular economy through more renewable, recyclable materials.”
Scherger’s tenure at Graphic Packaging, where he has been a senior leader since 2012 and CFO since 2015, is marked by significant contributions, including overseeing 20 acquisitions and spearheading major strategic initiatives. Notably, he was instrumental in launching Vision 2030, the company’s forward-looking strategic plan centered on innovation and sustainable growth, aligning with science-based carbon reduction targets. His focus on mentoring future leaders and contributing to industry causes has further solidified his reputation as a committed advocate for progress.
Ben Markens, President of the PPC, remarked on Scherger’s re-election: “Steve’s experience and leadership are invaluable to the paperboard packaging industry. We are excited to have him back as Board Chair, where his passion and strategic vision will help us navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
