The deadline for submitting abstracts for TAPPICon 2025 is December 1. For tissue professionals, this year’s program offers six integral topics to highlight your work and/or studies:
- Equipment, Processes & Operations
- Emerging Technologies & Methodologies
- Corporate Citizenship, Sustainability & Environmental Impact
- Innovative Technology for Products & Processes
- Pulp & Fiber Innovations, Alternative Materials and Applications
- Talent Development, Safety & Best Practices.
Two of the six Team Leads spearheading the tissue-related Call for Papers recently shared specifics for submitting papers in their focus areas:
Jeff Peters, Tissue Applications Manager, BTG
Topic Area: Pulp & Fiber Innovations, Alternative Materials and Applications
“Alternative fibers” has been a “buzz word” in tissue for a long time. One of the biggest challenges facing the industry is our consumers’ growing desire for more and more softer-feeling tissue. The challenge? Meeting that desire when considering fiber sources other than Eucalyptus. In this topic area, as it pertains to tissue, we are seeking content that addresses what type of sustainable fibers can be used as alternatives to SW or recycled fibers which also don’t negatively impact sheet properties when paired with Eucalyptus. Alternatively, when used in bargain brands that do not contain Eucalyptus. We are open to all types of new technology topics. Anything new or innovative, or that can build on what has been presented over the past couple of years, would be considered in our review and selection process.

Topic Area: Emerging Technologies & Methodologies
We are interested in seeing how emerging technologies are being applied to revolutionize tissue production, enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and product quality. We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics, including case studies and research highlights that illuminate the latest industrial trends. Some potential areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced Automation: The integration of robotics, machine vision, and other automation solutions to optimize production processes and reduce labor costs.
- Digital Transformation: The adoption of digital technologies, such as cloud computing, big data analytics, and digital twin modeling, to improve decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and enable predictive maintenance.
- AI and Machine Learning: The application of AI and machine learning algorithms to optimize production parameters, improve product quality, and predict equipment failures.
- Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics: The use of IoT devices to collect real-time data from production processes, enabling data-driven insights and predictive analytics.
- Cybersecurity and Data Security: The importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data and ensure the security of critical infrastructure.
To provide a broader context, consider these keywords: tissue paper, paper towel, tissue machine, Yankee dryer, digital transformation, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, IoT, data analytics, data security, and cybersecurity. The first four apply directly to the tissue industry, while the rest are relevant to Emerging Technologies & Methodologies.
Additional Topic Areas
Tissue professionals can also submit an abstract focused on one of the other four key topics emphasized at TAPPICon 2025. To learn more about each topic, simply visit the TAPPICon website:
