4evergreen is proud to announce the publication of Version 3 of the Guidance on the Improved Collection and Sorting of Fibre-Based Packaging for Recycling. This significant update is the result of great work by our Workstream 3, that involved over 40 industry experts from across the entire fibre-based packaging value chain.
The updated Guidance aims to improve collection and sorting, aligning with 4evergreen's mission to promote low-carbon and circular fibre-based packaging solutions. This document now includes three new annexes that provide in-depth insights into specific areas of the recycling process. The first annex addresses the impact of residual organic contamination on the recycling of fibre-based packaging and offers practical solutions to mitigate its effects in recycling processes. The second annex explores advanced sorting technologies and methodologies, ensuring that fibre-based packaging is accurately sorted to maximise recycling efficiency. The third annex focuses on the unique recycling needs of the Hotel, Restaurant, Café/Catering (HORECA) sector and on-the-go consumption, providing tailored recommendations to improve recycling rates in these environments.
The updated Guidance is a fundamental resource for the fibre-based packaging sector. It offers detailed recommendations and best practices essential for achieving higher recycling rates. By implementing these guidelines, stakeholders across the value chain can significantly improve the quality and quantity of recycled materials, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy.
4evergreen is a cross-industry alliance dedicated to advancing the circularity of fibre-based packaging, contributing to a climate-neutral and sustainable society.
