As one of Sweden’s largest electricity consumers, Billerud has joined Industrikraft to help strengthen Sweden’s ability to expand competitive fossil-free electricity.

Industrikraft is a platform where Swedish industrial companies collaborate to ensure a long-term and sustainable electricity supply. As part of Industrikraft, Billerud looks forward to participating in constructive dialogues about how Sweden’s energy system can be financed, secured, and developed for the future. This initiative plays a key role in meeting climate targets and enhancing the global competitiveness of Swedish industry.

“There is great potential to improve collaboration between industry and society to create a competitive and electrified Sweden. Industrikraft provides a pathway for better analysis and clearer communication from energy-intensive industries. Electrifying the industry and reducing fossil emissions are important for us at Billerud, which is why we welcome the expansion of fossil-free electricity. We want to help shape Sweden’s future energy model,” says Ivar Vatne, President and CEO of Billerud.

Currently, approximately 80 percent of the energy used globally is fossil-based. Billerud is actively working to reduce fossil emissions and meet its Science Based Targets (SBTi), with the goal of decreasing the company’s fossil emissions by 42 percent by 2030.

The initiative was launched in the spring of 2024 by Alfa Laval, Boliden, SKF, Stora Enso, and the Volvo Group as equal shareholders. In the fall of 2024, additional equal shareholders joined, including Billerud, ABB, AFRY, Alleima, Epiroc, Hitachi Energy, Höganäs, SAAB, SSAB, Södra, Vectura, and Volvo Cars.
