The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is investing $224.2 million in Port Hawkesbury Paper Wind Ltd.’s large-scale wind energy project, the Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm.
This large-scale project, with a total cost of approximately $450 million, aims to support Port Hawkesbury Paper, Nova Scotia's largest industrial electricity consumer, while contributing to the provincial energy grid. The wind farm is expected to supply about 60% of the paper mill's average annual power needs, securing its future electricity requirements.
The project involves the installation of 24 Nordex N163-7.0MW turbines with advanced anti-icing technology, generating 168 megawatts of sustainable electricity. Construction, led by RES Canada Construction LP, is expected to create 150 full-time jobs and contribute significantly to regional economic development.
“This project reflects our commitment to supporting green jobs, energy security, and a sustainable future,” said Trevor Boudreau, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Energy.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2026, the wind farm will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 350,000 metric tons annually, aligning with Nova Scotia’s goal of transitioning from coal to renewable energy.
