The Fedrigoni Group, a leading global player in specialty papers, self-adhesive materials, and RFID solutions, achieved a score of 90/100 in 2024 and, for the third consecutive time, the Platinum medal for sustainability. This recognition was also attributed to the significant results obtained from the sustainable procurement program, which enabled 241 suppliers to increase their ESG score by an average of 4.5 points through specific training programs and continuous improvement strategies. The commitment to engaging business partners and promoting sustainable practices confirms an effective strategy for generating shared value and positively impacting the entire ecosystem.

For Fedrigoni, sustainability is not limited to internal production processes but extends to the entire supply chain, promoting the adoption of virtuous practices throughout the value chain and driving change in the sector, while also anticipating the evolution of regulatory frameworks. Fedrigoni, a leader in the production of specialty papers for packaging and other creative solutions, labels and self-adhesive materials, and RFID solutions, requires its suppliers to adhere to a Code of Conduct that also includes environmental, social, and governance issues. In 2023, the company’s procurement policy was updated with the introduction of a periodic review mechanism for the ESG performance of business partners and criteria for identifying high-risk partners.

This context includes the collaboration, initiated in 2020, with EcoVadis, a global leader in sustainability ratings, which has developed an intelligence platform to measure procurement practices according to ESG criteria and improve performance across the supply chain. Thanks to this partnership, Fedrigoni has integrated ESG parameters into supplier evaluation criteria. The most relevant and strategic suppliers were invited to participate in the EcoVadis assessment through questionnaires that are constantly updated to align with current regulations and ensure continuous performance analysis. The platform also offers a dynamic benchmark, allowing for comparisons of values over time and with respect to the sector. Among the tools available to suppliers is the EcoVadis Academy, which offers courses dedicated to improving ESG skills.

The effectiveness of the sustainable procurement program is demonstrated by the company’s excellent score in the “Sustainable Procurement” section in 2024, with a 10-point increase compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 90/100. “Through continuous dialogue with suppliers, we are jointly developing several concrete sustainable procurement initiatives, with the goal of implementing shared ESG strategies,” says Alessandro Gaiati, Chief Procurement Officer of the Fedrigoni Group. “Continuous collaboration and the exchange of experiences, combined with the integration of ESG issues into our purchasing and evaluation strategy, are the key elements of the program’s success.”

Fedrigoni has implemented various initiatives, including round tables and informational workshops, to encourage partners to develop their sustainability strategies and promote continuous improvement, particularly in critical areas identified through EcoVadis scorecards. The results obtained are significant: out of 353 companies that underwent reassessment, 241 (68%) improved their ESG score, with an average increase of 4.5 points. The involvement of suppliers and the promotion of sustainable practices are, therefore, confirmed as a winning strategy for generating shared value and positively impacting the entire ecosystem.

Fedrigoni sets precise and measurable objectives, uses monitoring tools, and undergoes verification by third-party entities to certify progress in terms of environmental, social, and governance performance. EcoVadis plays a crucial role in Fedrigoni’s journey towards achieving its 2030 goals, measuring sustainability performance in the areas of Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. For three consecutive years, Fedrigoni has obtained the Platinum medal, ranking in the top 1% of the most virtuous companies and achieving a score of 90/100 in 2024. Fedrigoni has renewed its collaboration with EcoVadis for the coming years.
