Fortress Gets Electronic Passport Contract, to Expand Operations

Fortress Paper, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, a security and specialty papers producer, reported this week that it received a contract for electronic passports that will generate revenue of C$10 million over five years. According to a Reuters news report, Fortress said it will make about 2.5 million electronic passports, enabled with radio frequency identification (RFID) that will contain the holder's personal data and other biometric information. Fortress also plans to increase its banknotes production capacity to 10,000 metric tpy from the current 2,500 metric tpy, a move that involves the expansion of its Landqart mill in British Columbia. The company plans to rebuild its paper machine there.
