As Swedish paper worker strikes loom, the Finnish Forest Industries Federation and the Finnish Paper Workers' Union late last month reached an agreement covering workers in the paper industry. An agreement covering the salaried employees was also achieved.
The two-year collective agreement raises wages by 0.5% during the first year. In addition, the parties agreed on considerable development of the collective agreement to strengthen the industry's competitiveness and to maintain as many jobs as possible. The parties also agreed to develop the collective agreement to support wellbeing at work together with continuous improvement of competitiveness and productivity, to provide new working hours models, and to clarify the agreement. Both agreements cover the period April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2012.
