Carvajal is the first company to develop this unique, natural grade of paperboard. The pulp that comes from virgin sugarcane fibers and all of the raw materials used in the production of Kit 7 paperboard makes it suitable for direct contact with food in accordance with U.S. FDA regulations. The paperboard has also been certified by the German institute ISEGA.
The Natural grease resistant paperboard is part of Carvajal's EARTH PACT brand of products that are made with 100% bagasse and are totally free of bleach and dye chemicals. Especially important, no fluorocarbon additives or plastic films were used to attain grease resistance in the product.
As Carvajal notes, the new paperboard has excellent printability, with colors appearing significantly highlighted in contrast with its unique light cream color that gives it a "clean and healthy look." The company adds that, because Kit 7 paperboard contains no fluoride based chemicals or recycled fibers, it actually does "protect" human health. The new paperboard is suitable for packaging of various food products, including French fries, donuts, crispy chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, bakery products, etc.
Eugenio Castro, Carvajal CEO, said that "as a leading company in environmentally responsible products, we are very pleased to introduce this paperboard to the market, as one of our premium sustainable options, showing our commitment to the planet and also to the health of consumers/end users, looking for a sustainable future for all."
Carvajal Pulpa y Papel, with more than 50 years of experience in the production of paper products from bagasse, is part of the Carvajal S.A group, one of the largest Colombian multinational organizations, operating in 15 Latin American countries, with 26.000 employees.
