The No. 1 line, which makes coated papers, will be shutdown on at the end of this week, the CBJ article said. The Herald, Rock Hill, N.C., quoted a union spokesman saying the paper machine has 100 of the mill's 750 employees.
The plant operated for decades as an operation of Bowater and, later, AbitibiBowater. Montréal-based AbitibiBowater recently changed its name to Resolute Forest Products. The mil has been one of the county's largest employers. In the 1980s, it reached its peak in employment at 1,400, according to the CBJ article.
