Europeans Consume Less Pulp in September

Consumption of pulp in Europe during September declined 0.33% compared with September 2012, to 970,110 metric tons. Total inventories of pulp fell by 1.1% to 585,137 metric tons, according to the European-based Utipulp association.

Unbleached pulp consumption in September 2013 decreased by 4.1% to 9,897 metric tons, and inventories increased by 29.3% to 9,534 metric tons.

Consumption of bleached hardwood sulfite pulp increased by 31.6% to 8,574 metric tons, while inventories increased by 30% to 7,398 metric tons. Consumption of bleached softwood sulfite pulp decreased 50.6% to 10,185 metric. Consumption of bleached hardwood kraft pulp in September was down 0.3% to 566,147 metric tons, and inventories increased by 2% to 334,417 metric tons.

Consumption of bleached softwood kraft pulp increased by 1.8% to 375,307metric tons, while inventories decreased by 7.6% to 224,787 metric tons.

Utipulp represents European market pulp users. It has 11 member companies: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K.
