The modernization project will optimize the forming section through the installation of automatic vacuum control valves. The process will also become more efficient with a steam box for improved moisture cross profile and an OnQ FormingSens sensor, which measures water weight in the pulp.
In the press section, a NipcoFlex shoe press will be installed for higher linear pressure, thus ensuring a significant improvement in web strength. Also, a higher dryness content will be achieved after the press section, allowing production to be increased and/or energy to be saved.
Bahia Specialty Cellulose is Latin America's only producer of dissolving pulp derived from eucalyptus wood, and currently ranks as a world-class player in its segment. The company generally manufactures two types of dissolving pulp—rayon grade and the specialty grade, which is used in the production of products such as foodstuffs, cosmetics, cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, and tires. Of its total production, which in 2012 amounted to 435,000 metric tons, 97% was exported to countries in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. The remaining amount was sold to Brazilian manufacturers.
