UPM Kymi Mill Orders Andritz Pulp Drying Line, Upgrade for Fiberline 3
UPM, Finland has ordered from Andritz, Graz, Austria, a complete new pulp drying line and an upgrade of the cooking and brown stock handling of fiberline 3 at the UPM Kymi pulp mill in Kouvola, Finland. Andritz’s scope of supply includes:
- Complete pulp drying line with screening plant, TwinWireFormer pulp machine, airborne dryer, cutter-layboy, and bale finishing systems, including mechanical erection
- Modifications of cooking and brown stock handling, including a new multi-stage DD Washer to enhance brown stock washing in fiberline 3.
The pulp machine will be based on Andritz’s TwinWireFormer technology, which is suited for processing both Nordic hardwood and softwood in one machine. The pulp drying line enables a high specific throughput at reliable operation.
With this investment, UPM Kymi mill’s annual pulp production capacity will increase by 170,000 metric tons, up to 700,000 metric tpy of bleached northern softwood and birch pulp. The investment forms a significant part of UPM’s target to reach a 10% increase in its 3.3 million ton pulp capacity over the next three years.
