"Domtar is pleased to accept EPA's ENERGY STAR certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts," said Dennis L'Hommedieu, Fort Mill Operations Center Facilities manager. "Through this achievement, we have demonstrated our commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering our energy costs."
Commercial buildings that earn EPA's ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35% less energy than typical buildings. Domtar improved its operations center's energy performance through employee education and engagement, and by working closely with building management to implement cost-effective improvements over time.
Developed and managed by Childress Klein Properties, Domtar's corporate operations center represents more than 76,000 sq. ft. of Class A, corporate office space in Fort Mill's Kingsley Park office park. "As one of the largest operating expenses for all buildings in the U.S., aggressive energy management is an extremely valuable property management practice," noted Jeff Crane, senior property manager. "We applaud Domtar's achievement and its continuing focus on energy efficiency."
The certification is significant given the building's construction date of more than 15 years ago, along with the fact that it represents one of only six ENERGY STAR certified office buildings within the project's ZIP code.
