Webinar Explores the Greening of U.S. Schools

According to FutureMark Paper Group, Westport, Conn., USA, a school’s commitment to green initiatives is vital to developing environmental consciousness in the minds of future generations. By making eco-friendly choices, the company says, a district not only helps to improve the health of the planet, but also takes a primary role in educating students about sustainability by example.

A webinar recently hosted by Education Week focuses on steps schools can take to close the gap on "the last green mile" and reduce the environmental impact of textbooks and instructional materials. The discussion features remarks from the following expert panelists in education, sustainability, and pulp and paper:

FutureMark notes that if school systems across the U.S. made the switch to high-recycled paper, i.e., paper containing no less than 85% recycled material, "we would save more than 4 million trees from being harvested, nearly 2 billion gallons of water, and 2.5 trillion BTUs of energy, every year.
